Circumvallate Placenta

This was a placenta from a previous birth that has reoccurred in another birth recently in which I have been reading and looking into again. Everything I read on it was not applicable to either mamas pregnancy or birth. They are just amazing to see though so I thought I would share in my blog. Birth professionals feel free to tell your circumvallate placenta story!

Circumvallate placenta is a placental anomaly in which the fetal membranes (chorion and amnion) "double back" on the fetal side around the edge of the placenta. After delivery, a circumvallate placenta has a thick ring of membranes on its fetal surface.

There are articles that say there can be some associated issues with the baby, however in these experiences the baby had none of the symptoms associated with the additional issues.
